Cupidity ---> Stupidity

The Word of the Day is cupidity. It has nothing to do with matchmaking.

cupidity \kyoo-PID-uh-tee\, noun:
Eager or excessive desire, especially for wealth; greed; avarice.

What does this have to do with your safety?, from whence the Word of the Day arises, gives sentences using the Daily Word. Here's one of my own:

If not for his cupidity, he would have indeed given weight to the "salesman's" shifting eyes, rstless posture, and overly-personal questions, rather than to the allure of self-generating wealth.
Many would-be assailants, those who take the time to deliberately groom their victims, depend on their targets' cupidity. On their targets' ignoring gut feelings or verbal inconsistencies or body language cues. Sad part is many of these targets do recognize that they are discarding warning signs, but continue because of some leading promise.

Real risk assessment means never having to eat cupidity.

  1. Don't let my username freak ya out--Piccolo is an anime character ;)

    ANYWAY...I don't live anywhere near you(I'm in California), but I read through your site and blog and I think it might have protected me last night.

    What happened was it was about midnight when my dog started barking out the open front door. We always keep our screen locked and it's one of those metal ones with a deadbolt that's more like a door than a screen, but he barks when people walk by outside unless they're neighbors or family.

    So I walked to the door to look outside and there's this man wearing a dark gray hoodie with the hood pulled up so it covers part of his face. He stepped in my mom's flower bed and the motion lights came on(hence how I know the color of his hoodie). I started YELLING at him to "Get the f*** off my mom's flowers!" This alerted my mom, my dad and somebody across the street--I can scream LOUD and never use that kind of language verbally, so I knew it'd get attention drawn to me. The creepy person bolted down the street. I heard sirens later, but I don't know if it was for him or something else. All I know is it scared a potential burglar/rapist away and it's all thanks to your site!
